Minute Tip · Gardening and outdoors
Helmet first. Then ride.
Make one simple safety check before a neighborhood ride.

The tip
Before a neighborhood ride, take one minute for a safety check.
First, your helmet. It should sit level on your head, not tipped back, with the strap snug. Second, tires. Press them to check that they are firm. Third, brakes. Squeeze both levers and make sure they grip.
Then choose a familiar route with light traffic, and go at a comfortable pace. If you have not ridden in a while, start with a short, flat ride.
If balance or dizziness is a concern, ask a clinician first. Stop if anything feels wrong. One minute of checking makes the ride easier to enjoy.
